NORTH TAPANULI – MNC Peduli Chairwoman Angela Tanoesoedibjo distributed humanitarian aid to residents affected by flash floods and landslides in North Tapanuli on Monday (8/12). A total of 233 people from 86 families are now staying in emergency shelters, including the HKBP Lobu Pining post, after their homes were destroyed and buried by landslide debris.
Angela was accompanied by the Regent of North Tapanuli, Jonius Taripar Parsaoran Hutabarat, local government officials, and MNC Peduli volunteers. Residents warmly welcomed the group and helped unload aid from the logistics vehicles.
“We from MNC Peduli and the iNews Media Group came directly to North Sumatra, and we first assessed what was actually needed before arriving here,” Angela said. She added that residents’ needs go beyond basic food items and include hygiene supplies, clean clothing, and drinking water.
“In addition to basic necessities such as staple foods, what is urgently needed are hygiene supplies—things like clothing and undergarments. Clean water is also essential so residents can feel more supported,” she explained.
The aid brought by MNC Peduli included:
After handing over the assistance, Angela toured the evacuation area to observe conditions and speak directly with residents about their ongoing needs. She also took time to play and interact with the children, who looked delighted while receiving school supplies. Angela then visited the public kitchen at the shelter, where meals are prepared for evacuees, and spoke with the women volunteers managing it.
Access to several villages remains obstructed by landslide debris and mud. Some residents must travel up to three hours along steep cliffs to receive aid. This situation shows that the community’s needs are still very urgent.
Angela emphasized that the assistance reflects the compassion of the Indonesian people. “This aid, although far from enough to cover the losses and unable to restore what has been taken away, represents care and solidarity,” she said. She added that the donations carry the hopes and empathy of many. “This assistance is a token of prayer and hope from those who empathize and pray for the healing of fellow Indonesians affected by this tragedy,” Angela said.
Regent JTP Hutabarat expressed appreciation for MNC Peduli’s support and stated that the local government is preparing temporary housing for residents whose homes were destroyed.
MNC Peduli will continue distributing aid across various affected areas. They have lost everything. Every contribution, no matter how small, means a great deal to the flood and landslide victims. Join MNC Peduli to help them today.
